Official guardians of the authentic history, sacred artifacts, and living traditions of Bhureshwar Mahadev (Bhurishring)—the lok devta of Sirmaur—for present and future generations.
Our Beginning
For generations, the Polia family and the people of Sirmaur have kept Bhureshwar Mahadev through kar, dhoop-deep, festivals, and faith—often without recognition, often at personal sacrifice. Scholarly work—especially research published in 2023—has now brought together Vedas, Puranas, revenue records, misl entries, sanads, and jan shruti in one place. Yet books alone cannot protect silver heirlooms in homes, fading oral accounts, or fragile papers in trunks and temples.
This committee was established to create formal, continuous guardianship of Bhureshwar’s history—separate from day-to-day ritual and separate from construction alone—focused on authentic history, material heritage, and living memory before they thin out.
We do not replace the pujari line or the devotee community. We stand with them—as stewards of the same dharohar they have carried for centuries.
Purpose
To preserve the true story of Bhurishring / Bhureshwar Mahadev and safeguard its physical and cultural heritage so that every visitor—and every child of Sirmaur—can encounter history with respect, clarity, and pride.

Urgency
Elders who remember Mehandu Khel, Panal Khel, Dev Gyaras, and old procession routes are fewer each year. If not recorded now, details vanish within a generation.
Silver tumbadi and sacred stones live in homes across Sirmaur. Without a registry and awareness, heirlooms can be lost without the community knowing.
Social media spreads instant stories—not all accurate. A committee-backed record protects the temple from misinformation.
Published research and verified sanad translations give a rare moment to align faith, folklore, and evidence—that window must not close unused.
Without interpretation, pilgrims see scenery—not riyasat memory, Vedic name, and living puja.
Paper, wood, metal, and hillside structures all degrade. Preventive care in the 2020s costs far less than emergency recovery later.
Ritual keeps the deity alive. Construction keeps the shrine standing. This committee keeps the truth and the treasures alive.

Custody of sacred objects remains with the deity, the priest line, and the community. The committee documents, advises, and facilitates—it does not claim ownership of living worship.
Ethics
Six principles guide every heritage decision, publication, and community interaction.
We prefer documented, traditional, and community-remembered history over unsupported claims.
No heritage decision without respect for the hereditary Dev Pujari / Polia parampara.
Families share heirlooms voluntarily; privacy and sanctity are always honoured.
Hindi and English records stay aligned for Sirmaur and the wider world.
